Car from 3D printer has just 40 components

Local Motors from Phoenix has produced the first fully-functional car from a 3D printing process and thereby reduced the number of components from over 20,000 to just 40. Given the name "Strati", this car was manufactured live in front of visitors to the International Manufacturing Technology Show in Chicago. The time required to produce all the various components was just 44 hours and the car was then assembled in two days. The initiators used 3D printers from Cincinnati, which process the carbon-based ABS plastic in record time.
