Researchers at VU Amsterdam have developed the first robot that can reproduce itself. To do this, the team creates robots with their own DNA so that they could produce babies with the help of a 3D printer. After analysing each other, the two robots randomly combine their characteristics, including software and hardware, through Wi-Fi. After its birth, the 3D-printed offspring goes through a learning process which decides if it will also be capable of reproduction. This technique represents an important step towards industrial evolution.
